Salman Shah’s unnatural death case has now been converted into a murder case, and since then, new information about the actor’s death has been continuously emerging. Recently, attention has turned to Ramesh, the morgue attendant (dom) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, who performed the autopsy on Salman Shah’s body. Ramesh, who has since converted to Islam and now goes by Sekandar, told the media that he couldn’t believe Salman had passed away even during the autopsy.
He said, “I’ve heard that there’s renewed writing about the late actor Salman Shah’s death. We don’t understand much, but I’ve heard the family has now been allowed to file a murder case.”
Ramesh recalled, “Millions of people were fans of actor Salman Shah, and I was one of them. Suddenly, I heard that Salman Shah had died. His body was brought to the morgue. Thousands of people had gathered in front of the morgue. Renowned actors and actresses from the film industry and other artists were all crying.”
He added, “At that time, the Dhaka Medical College morgue wasn’t as modern as it is now. The body was brought to the old morgue. I performed the autopsy under the doctor’s instruction. I myself made the incisions on the chest of my beloved actor. In a forensic autopsy, everything must be done according to the doctor’s directions.”
Now retired, Ramesh said, “After 35 years of service, I am living a retired life. I’ve performed autopsies on thousands of bodies, but I will never forget the memory of handling Salman Shah’s body.”
In 1996, the actor’s former wife Samira Haque had claimed that Salman’s death was a suicide, but his family disagreed. Finally, on October 20, the court directed that the case be pursued as a murder investigation.
