Even after nearly three decades since the death of film actor Salman Shah, the mysterious cloud surrounding it has not cleared. Recently, the actor’s younger brother, Shahran Chowdhury, came into the spotlight over this matter. In a Facebook Live session, he spoke about Salman’s former wife and the prime accused in the murder case, Samira Haque.
In a 34-minute-long live session, Shahran, with an emotional tone, said, “I don’t usually go live. But some things cannot go unsaid. My intention is not to belittle anyone—just to tell the truth.”
Addressing Samira, he said, “My brother loved you immensely. Think for a moment—what did you see in him that made you love him, marry him, and even leave your own family to be with him? Surely, you must have seen something special in him. Even when your family did not accept the marriage, our family never abandoned you.”
While speaking, Shahran broke down in emotion. He further said, “People say my brother had tendencies toward suicide—but think carefully, until he met you, Salman Shah’s life was completely normal. This reasoning cannot be accepted.”
Expressing his disappointment toward Samira, Shahran said, “I tried calling you; I wanted to talk, but you didn’t pick up. Perhaps it’s age, or maybe many things are forgotten. I don’t want to belittle you. But remember, why you came from Bogura to Dhaka, where you took shelter—all of this my brother had told me. Today, I will not say anything further, except this—seek forgiveness from Allah for your actions.”
Toward the end of the live session, Shahran urged that the 11 accused in Salman Shah’s murder case should seek forgiveness from Allah for their deeds.
In the live session, Shahran spoke not only about Samira but also on various other matters. His statements make it clear—he still believes that Salman Shah did not commit suicide but was a victim of a deep conspiracy.
Salman Shah, a popular actor of the 1990s, died under mysterious circumstances on September 6, 1996. At that time, his death was ruled a ‘suicide,’ but Salman’s family has always maintained that it was a premeditated murder.
