Nearly three decades have passed since the death of actor Salman Shah, yet the mystery surrounding his demise remains unresolved. Recently, the case has resurfaced in public discussion once again.
After 29 years, the court has finally ordered the case to be treated as a murder case.
Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque, issued the directive, sending the case to Ramna Police Station for further investigation.
Salman Shah died on September 6, 1996. Despite years of speculation, no conclusive investigation had been carried out regarding the true cause of his death.
Following the court’s new order, Salman Shah’s uncle, Alamgir Kumkum, filed a case with Ramna Police Station, naming 11 accused including Salman’s former wife, Samira Haque, and actor Don Haque.
Salman’s family has long claimed that the actor was murdered in a premeditated manner. His mother, Neela Chowdhury, alleged that when they tried to file a murder case, police recorded it as an unnatural death instead.
The police, however, stated that if murder was proven during investigation, the case would automatically be converted into a homicide case.
Since the beginning, suspicion has centered around his wife, Samira. But she has consistently maintained that Salman took his own life.
In an earlier interview, Samira said Salman was “suicidal by nature” and had attempted suicide three times before. She claimed that two of those incidents were recorded in medical documents, and another took place at a different hospital—all before their marriage.
After the latest court order, Samira has reportedly been missing for four days. The phone number she used remains switched off.
Salman Shah began his film career in the early 1990s and, within just four years, acted in 27 films, achieving immense fame. He was seen as a shining star by both audiences and critics. Even after 29 years, his name remains immortal, and the revival of his case has rekindled hope and emotion among his fans.
