Sarjis Alam Declared Unwelcome in Rajshahi

Tensions have escalated within the Rajshahi district and city committees of the National Citizens Party (NCP), with the rivalry between the top leaders of the district and city becoming an open secret. Incidents such as torch processions, wall writings, locked offices, and other unpleasant events have already taken place between the factions.

Amidst this, Sarjis Alam, a key organiser of the NCP in the northern region, has now been declared unwelcome in Rajshahi.

On Friday night (5 December), Motaleb Hossain, former joint convenor of the Rajshahi district committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and a former member of the NCP district coordination committee, announced this decision in a Facebook post.

The post stated that the move came because Saiful Islam, the district convenor, was not expelled. On 29 November, Saiful Islam was appointed as the district convenor of the NCP, having previously served as joint coordinator of the district coordination committee. A faction has labelled him a supporter of the Awami League and taken to the field.

Motaleb Hossain wrote on Facebook, “Saiful Islam was brought into the NCP by Rajshahi divisional organiser Imran Emon, who gave him the post. We have seen that Imran Emon has close ties with Sarjis Alam. Despite informing Sarjis Alam repeatedly about this, he showed no concern.”

He added, “This implies Sarjis Alam is directly involved. Sarjis Alam has been declared unwelcome in Rajshahi. Inquilab Zindabad.”

When contacted, Motaleb Hossain said, “We have now declared Sarjis Alam unwelcome. If no action is taken against Saiful Islam, the entire NCP in Rajshahi will be declared unwelcome.”

Attempts to reach NCP’s Rajshahi divisional organiser Imran Emon were unsuccessful as he did not answer the phone. Sarjis Alam’s mobile was also switched off, so their comments could not be obtained.
