Section 144 Imposed on BNP Rallies in Alfadanga

In Alfadanga municipality of Faridpur, the local administration has imposed Section 144 from 10 am to 6 pm today, Saturday (29 November), due to separate rallies by two BNP groups. UNO and Executive Magistrate Russel Iqbal stated that the measure was taken to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

According to the administration, both groups announced rallies at the Asaduzzaman Pilot High School ground. Fearing potential clashes or violence, Section 144 was immediately enforced. The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people, meetings, protests, processions, explosives, firearms, and local weapons in the specified areas. Necessary steps will be taken to maintain normalcy.

The instruction has been formally communicated to the Faridpur District Magistrate, Police Superintendent, and Alfadanga police station officer-in-charge.

Local sources reported that BNP’s Faridpur-1 nomination aspirant, central Krishak Dal vice-president Khondkar Nasirul Islam, and Shamsuddin Mia, also known as Jhunu faction, called for rallies. The announcement increased local tension.

Previously, on 7 November, during a BNP rally for National Revolution and Solidarity Day in Boalmari, violence erupted. Minazur Rahman Lipon, leader of Jhunu faction in the Upazila Jubo Dal and municipal councillor, was seriously injured. Although Khondkar Nasir was named primary suspect, no arrests have been made yet.

OC Md. Shahajalal Alam stated that Section 144 was imposed to prevent untoward incidents, and police have been deployed at key points in the municipality. No untoward incidents were reported at the time of writing.
