Bangladesh is set to face several cold spells over the next three months, with at least three of them likely to intensify into severe cold waves. Forecasts also indicate the possibility of hailstorms and thunderstorms during this period.
According to the long-range weather outlook issued for December to February, the Met Office reported that 3 to 8 mild (8–10°C) to moderate (6–8°C) cold waves may sweep across different parts of the country. Some of these spells could escalate into severe cold waves, with temperatures falling between 4°C and 6°C.
From late night to morning, moderate to dense fog may blanket river basins and surrounding areas. Light to moderate fog could also form elsewhere, occasionally lasting until midday.
The forecast further states that dense fog may reduce the temperature difference between day and night, increasing the overall feeling of chill. Additionally, one or two days of hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms are possible in parts of the country during the latter half of February, according to the Meteorological Department.
