Punjab, India, is enduring its worst flood in four decades, leaving a trail of devastation across 23 districts. More than 50 lives have been lost, while thousands of families have lost their homes and farmlands. In this time of despair, Bollywood celebrities have stepped forward in solidarity with the flood-affected people, among them the “King of Bollywood” Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan’s charitable organisation, the Meer Foundation, has taken active steps to support flood victims. Partnering with the local NGO Voice of Amritsar, the foundation is providing emergency relief materials to around 1,500 affected families in Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Firozpur.

The relief package includes:

  • Essential medicines
  • Sanitation kits
  • Food supplies
  • Mosquito nets
  • Tarpaulins
  • Bedding

About Meer Foundation

  • Established by Shah Rukh Khan in memory of his father, Meer Taj Muhammad Khan.
  • Works primarily for the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors and for women’s empowerment.
  • Actively engaged in humanitarian relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, supplying oxygen cylinders, hospital beds, rations, and financial assistance.

Shah Rukh Khan is not alone in this mission. Several film stars and organisations have come forward to assist:

Celebrity / OrganisationContribution
Salman Khan / Being Human FoundationDonated 5 rescue boats and pledged to adopt affected villages.
Sonu SoodAlong with his family, distributing thousands of relief kits directly to flood victims.
Akshay KumarExtended financial and logistical support for rehabilitation.
Alia BhattProvided aid through charitable networks and donations.
Diljit DosanjhMobilised local support and sent aid materials to Punjab’s rural areas.

Punjab’s current floods have been described as the most devastating since 1988. Triggered by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, the water levels of the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers rose drastically, resulting in widespread inundation.

  • Total villages affected: 1,655
  • People impacted: Over 350,000 (3.5 lakh)
  • Districts affected: 23
  • Deaths reported: More than 50

As Punjab reels under this crisis, the solidarity shown by Bollywood and Punjabi stars offers hope and vital support to those rebuilding their lives amidst one of the gravest natural disasters the state has faced in decades.
