Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has recently implemented significant improvements in passenger services and baggage management, aiming to provide a smoother, safer, and more transparent travel experience for both domestic and international travellers.
Airport authorities report that check-in and immigration procedures have become markedly faster. The installation of modern scanning equipment, an increase in the number of service counters, and a strategic redistribution of staff have enhanced the flow of passengers. Upgraded surveillance and automated security systems have further strengthened safety and operational efficiency.
Baggage handling has also seen substantial advancements. Delivery times have been reduced, and complaints regarding lost luggage have decreased significantly. The airport has placed a strong emphasis on cleanliness, expanded seating facilities, and environmentally friendly initiatives to improve the overall passenger experience.
Abul Bashar, a returning expatriate from Saudi Arabia, commented, “Previously, we had to stand in long queues, but now waiting times are much shorter. The improvements in digital signage and information desks have made it easier to access necessary guidance. The expanded use of body-worn cameras provides peace of mind, fulfilling a long-standing need for many travellers.”
K.M. Abu Nowshad, Executive Magistrate of the Civil Aviation Authority, stated, “Through collective effort and sincere dedication, we are ensuring improved services. Passengers can report any issue, suggestion, or complaint via the 13600 hotline.”
Bashra Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, noted that body-worn cameras are enhancing transparency and accountability in baggage handling, protecting passengers’ property while allowing for rapid identification of responsible personnel or stations.
Group Captain S.M. Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Shahjalal International Airport, added, “Biman Bangladesh Airlines has long utilised body-worn cameras, and their deployment has now been extended to all airlines’ baggage operations. Step-by-step development projects are ongoing to meet international standards.”
The following table summarises the recent initiatives and their impacts:
| Development Initiative | Impact / Outcome |
|---|---|
| Installation of modern scanning equipment | Accelerated check-in procedures |
| Increase in counters and staff redistribution | Enhanced passenger flow |
| Expansion of body-worn cameras | Improved baggage handling transparency and accountability |
