Bangladesh’s left-arm fast bowler Shariful Islam has been selected to play in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He will represent Peshawar Zalmi, joining fellow Bangladeshi pacer Nahid Rana, who was previously signed by the same franchise.
On Monday, Peshawar Zalmi confirmed Shariful’s direct contract through their official social media channels. The team posted: “The Yellow Storm grows stronger with your arrival! Bangladesh’s express left-arm pacer Shariful Islam is ready to make waves in the PSL.”
The 24-year-old is a regular member of Bangladesh’s squad across all three formats. He recently showcased outstanding form for Chattogram Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Shariful claimed 26 wickets at an economy rate of 5.84, setting a record for the most wickets in a single BPL season.
Despite this stellar performance, Shariful’s name was not included in the PSL’s initial auction last month. He later joined Peshawar Zalmi through a direct contract, highlighting the franchise’s confidence in his abilities.
Other Bangladeshi players acquired for the PSL this season include Nahid Rana, Parvez Hossain Emon, Rishad Hossain, and Mustafizur Rahman. While Nahid and Emon initially went unsold, they were later secured at a base price of 6 million Pakistani rupees. Mustafizur joined Lahore Qalandars via a direct contract worth 64.4 million rupees, and Emon will also play for the same team. Rishad has been drafted by the new franchise Rawalpindi Pindigs.
The table below summarises the Bangladeshi players’ PSL contracts:
| Player | Team | Contract Type | Value (PKR) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shariful Islam | Peshawar Zalmi | Direct contract | Not disclosed | BPL leading wicket-taker |
| Nahid Rana | Peshawar Zalmi | Auction | 6,000,000 | Initially unsold, later acquired at base price |

Shariful’s signing marks a significant achievement for Bangladesh’s pace bowling contingent. His BPL exploits have strengthened his international reputation, and he is expected to excite cricket fans with his pace and precision in the yellow jersey.
With Nahid Rana and Parvez Hossain Emon also in the squad, Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling unit gains considerable depth. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman’s inclusion in Lahore Qalandars enhances their attack, and Rishad Hossain’s participation with Rawalpindi Pindigs highlights the growing presence of young Bangladeshi talents on the international stage.
This PSL season presents an important platform for Bangladesh’s pacers to showcase their skill and form. Given Shariful’s recent performances, he is poised to make a significant impact.
