Bollywood’s iconic playback singer, Arijit Singh, has announced that he will no longer be accepting new playback assignments, a revelation that has sent waves across the Indian music industry and ignited widespread discussion among fans nationwide.

The announcement came late Tuesday evening via Arijit’s official Facebook and Instagram pages, where he wrote:
"Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year. I remain forever grateful for your love and support. Today, I wish to share that I will not be taking on any new playback work. This chapter ends here. It has been an extraordinary journey."

Shreya Ghoshal, one of Bollywood’s leading female playback singers and a long-time collaborator with Arijit, expressed her wholehearted support. She commented:
"This is a new beginning for Arijit Singh. I eagerly look forward to enjoying his future work. But I do not see this as the end of any chapter, for an artist of his calibre cannot and should not be confined. Dear Arijit, this is your moment to soar."

Industry insiders suggest that Arijit’s decision is motivated not only by professional fatigue but also by a desire to explore personal and creative avenues. He elaborated:
"I lose interest very quickly, and the melodies and arrangements I work with often evolve. To continue growing as an artist, I must now explore new musical styles. Moreover, inspiring new voices and emerging talent is currently far more compelling to me."

The musical partnership between Arijit and Shreya has produced some of the most memorable songs in both Bollywood and Bengali cinema, earning both critical acclaim and enduring popularity. Their most celebrated collaborations include:

No.Song & FilmRelease YearPopularity
1“Tum Hi Ho” (Aashiqui 2)2013Highly popular
2“Jeery Seri” (Bala)2015Commercial hit
3“Ek Tum” (Shuddh)2018Critically loved
4“Premer Chhaya” (Bengali film)2020Critically praised

Music analysts view Arijit’s withdrawal from mainstream playback as a strategic transition rather than a finale. Many expect him to now channel his creativity into experimental music, mentoring emerging talent, and undertaking diverse musical projects.

With a career spanning over a decade and marked by innumerable chart-topping hits, Arijit Singh has secured a singular place in contemporary Indian music. His influence continues to inspire both peers and fans alike, cementing his legacy as one of India’s most transformative and enduring musical voices.
