Bagerhat, 11 January 2026 — In a significant political development, twelve prominent members of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) have tendered their resignations from the party’s Bagerhat Sadar Upazila branch. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Bagerhat Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
The resignations include that of Ali Husain, the Chief Coordinator of the branch, along with other key members who have played active roles in the party’s local leadership.
Ali Husain, speaking through a written statement read at the press conference, cited political misalignment between the party’s original vision and the current political landscape as the main reason for his departure.
“Since assuming the role of Chief Coordinator on 3 June 2025, I have been committed to the ideals and promises of the 2024 people’s movement, aimed at building a new Bangladesh,” Husain stated. “However, the present circumstances and political equations reveal a clear incompatibility between my personal vision and the party’s current political direction. The pledge we once held to reshape the future has been compromised, leaving me with no option but to resign from my position and step away from the party.”
Other members who submitted their resignations alongside Husain include the Deputy Coordinator, Kazi Mahfuzur Rahman, and members Ashiqur Rahman Sumon, Sheikh Rasel, Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, Md. Hasan Sheikh, Md. Shahidul Islam, Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Sheikh Nabil Hossain, Md. Joni, Munia Akter Jenny, and Md. Ratul Ahsan.

The resignations have raised questions regarding the internal dynamics of the NCP in Bagerhat, with political analysts suggesting that this may be indicative of a wider strategic realignment within the party ahead of upcoming local and national elections.
Observers note that the departures could signal rising discontent among grassroots leaders who feel that the party has strayed from its founding promises of reform and citizen-focused governance.
As of now, the NCP leadership has not issued an official response to the mass resignation, leaving the future of the Bagerhat Sadar branch uncertain. Local party members are expected to convene in the coming days to discuss the organisational restructuring and appoint interim leadership.
