The prominent Bangladeshi folk musician Moushumi Akter Salma, famously known to her fans simply as Salma, has reached the end of her second marriage. Her husband, Sanaullah Nure Shagor, a legal professional by trade, took to social media to confirm that the couple has officially parted ways after seven years of matrimony. The announcement has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, as the pair were often seen as a stable unit within the often-turbulent world of celebrity relationships.
In a poignant and dignified Facebook post, Sanaullah detailed the reasons behind their decision, citing irreconcilable differences in their perspectives and mindsets. “I have brought my married life with singer Salma to an end,” he wrote. “The reason for our separation lies solely in mutual disagreements, and a divergence in our thoughts and mentalities. We have concluded our marital journey while maintaining mutual respect and dignity.” He further appealed to the public and the media to refrain from making negative remarks regarding this deeply personal transition.
Despite the dissolution of their romantic bond, Sanaullah emphasised a commitment to co-parenting their young daughter. He noted that Salma would always hold a place of “honour and respect” in his life as the mother of his child. Salma, a household name in Bangladesh since winning the second season of the reality television competition CloseUp1: Tomakei Khujchhe Bangladesh, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the split.
Salma’s personal life has often been a subject of public interest, paralleling her successful musical career. Originally from Kushtia, she rose to national stardom through her soulful renditions of folk and Lalon songs. Her first marriage in 2011 to Shibli Sadiq, a former Member of Parliament, ended in 2016. She later found companionship with Sanaullah, marrying him in a private ceremony on the final day of 2018.
