Sirajganj Beggar Who Saved Three Sacks of Money Dies of Cancer

Saleha Begum (65), a beggar in Sirajganj who gained attention for saving three sacks of money, has passed away. Locals knew her as “Sale Pagli.” She died on Friday (October 24) evening while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

After the funeral prayer at 10 a.m. on Saturday (October 25), Saleha Begum was buried at Kandapara Cemetery in Sirajganj town.

It is reported that Saleha Begum was first admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital in a critical condition. Later, for advanced treatment, she was transferred to North Bengal Medical College and then to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where doctors diagnosed her with liver cancer.

Md. Shahriar Shipu, former councilor of Ward No. 1 of Sirajganj Municipality, confirmed the news, saying, “Sale Pagli had been ill for a long time. She passed away yesterday and was buried today after the funeral prayer. Her saved money will be distributed according to Islamic law.”

Notably, recently, three sacks of money were recovered from Saleha Begum’s home in Mashumpur, Natunpara, Sirajganj Sadar, within a span of two days. The usable amount totaled 174,079 Taka. The incident sparked widespread discussion on social media.
