Six Arrested in Major Drugs and Arms Raid in Dhaka

In a significant operation in the Sayedabad area of Dhaka, the Bangladesh Army’s 46th Independent Infantry Brigade seized a substantial cache of drugs, firearms, ammunition, and cash, resulting in the arrest of six individuals, including a woman.

The raid, conducted in the early hours of Monday, 26 January, was launched at approximately 4:40 a.m., based on actionable intelligence. Targeting the vicinity of Sayedabad Bus Terminal and the adjacent railway lines, the operation focused on notorious drug dealer and criminal Auto Sojal and his associates.

During the search, Auto Sojal managed to evade capture, but six of his associates—including Raju, Faruq, Zahid, Sajib, and Jonis, along with family members—were apprehended. Efforts to arrest Auto Sojal are ongoing.

The operation yielded an extensive collection of contraband and weaponry. Items recovered from Sojal’s residence, including the roof and various rooms, are detailed below:

Item Description Quantity/Details
Foreign automatic pistols (7.65 mm) 2
Live ammunition rounds 8
Yaba tablets 5,108
Heroin (bundles) 270
Domestic sharp weapons 13
Cash (Bangladeshi Taka) 8,26,430
Cocktail grenades and components 3 sets
Mobile phones 20
Bottles of foreign liquor 2

Preliminary investigations indicate that Auto Sojal led a well-organised criminal network involved in drug trafficking and violent activities across Sayedabad and Jatrabari. The gang reportedly supplied illicit drugs throughout the capital while also engaging in terror-related operations using firearms and other weapons.

The Bangladesh Army emphasised that the operation was executed with utmost professionalism and caution, with no untoward incidents reported. The arrested individuals and the seized items have been handed over to the relevant police station for legal proceedings.

Authorities confirmed that the Bangladesh Army remains committed to supporting law and order, combating narcotics and criminal activity, and will continue to carry out timely and effective operations to safeguard public safety and security.
