Six people have been killed and another 28 injured in a head-on collision between two buses in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The accident occurred on Monday in Tenkasi district, according to NDTV.
Police stated that one bus was travelling from Madurai to Sengottai, while the other was headed towards Kovilpatti. When the buses reached the Tenkasi area, they crashed head-on. The impact left both buses mangled, killing six passengers on the spot and injuring 28 others.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. Health officials present at the scene said several of the injured are in critical condition, and the death toll may rise.
A senior Tamil Nadu police officer told NDTV that preliminary investigations indicate the bus travelling from Madurai to Sengottai, operated by Kesar, was being driven recklessly. It is suspected that excessive speed caused the accident.
