Six Killed in Separate Road Accidents

A series of tragic road accidents across Rajshahi, Pabna, and Rajbari districts have claimed six lives over the past two days. On Tuesday morning, two people were killed in Puthia, Rajshahi, and three others lost their lives in Santhia, Pabna. In addition, one person died on Monday afternoon in Gopalganj, Rajbari, following a collision.

Puthia, Rajshahi: Dump Truck Collision Claims Two Lives

In Puthia, Rajshahi, a head-on collision occurred this morning between a chicken-laden “nosimon” (small truck) and a sand-laden dump truck on the Puthia–Taherpur regional road at Nimtola, Gondagohali area.

Two labourers on the nosimon, Naim (20) and Hamim (25), both residents of Hordgram Sheikhpara, Kashiadanga Police Station, Rajshahi City, were killed in the accident. The nosimon driver, Md. Sohel (38), survived with injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that at approximately 8:30 am, the nosimon heading to Puthia collided head-on with the Taherpur-bound dump truck. All three on the nosimon were thrown onto the road. They were rushed to Puthia Upazila Health Complex, where Naim and Hamim were pronounced dead.

The dump truck driver, Md. Mintu (40), and his assistant, Swadhin Ali (22), tried to flee the scene but were apprehended by locals and handed over to the police. Swadhin Ali was admitted to hospital in injured condition, while Mintu was taken into police custody.

The truck owner, Mamun Hossain, said, “Two of my men have died, and I had about BDT 150,000 worth of chickens on the truck. The loss is enormous.”

Santhia, Pabna: Three Killed in Bus Collision

In Pabna, a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Pabna–Dhaka highway near Sholabaria, Atikula Thana, Santhia, claimed three lives and injured at least 15 others at around 7:30 am.

According to the police, the Shahjadpur Travels bus had departed Pabna for Dhaka when it collided with an oncoming bus from Machranga Transport at Sholabaria Bridge. Kamal Hossain died instantly, while two others succumbed to injuries en route to Pabna Sadar Hospital.

Madhpur Highway Thana Officer-in-Charge Mostafizar Rahman stated that the victims’ identities are being verified before the bodies are handed over to their families, and legal action is underway.

Gopalganj, Rajbari: Motorbike Collision Claims One

In Rajbari’s Gopalganj, a collision between a motorcycle and a battery-operated auto-rickshaw on Monday afternoon left local businessman Shithil Biswas (25) dead. He was the son of Komol Biswas, owner of Setu Jewellers in Gopalganj Market.

Shithil was rushed first to Gopalganj Upazila Health Complex, then to Faridpur Medical College, and later to Dhaka Medical College, where he died around 5 pm. The local police, following the family’s request, permitted burial without a post-mortem.
