Six Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, were killed in a clash with militants in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghan border. The confrontation took place when Pakistani forces launched an operation based on intelligence about a militant hideout in Dogar, Kurram.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan military, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday (October 29). The ISPR also claimed that seven militants were killed during the exchange of fire.
According to the ISPR statement, the operation was conducted after receiving information about the presence of members of a “group spreading mischief.” Dawn reported that the Pakistani military commonly uses this term to refer to the militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Islamabad has alleged that the armed group, “supported by India,” operates from Afghan Taliban sanctuaries and regularly carries out attacks and operations inside Pakistan. However, both India and Afghanistan have consistently denied any connection or involvement with the TTP.
In recent days, the frequency and intensity of attacks on Pakistani forces in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Afghan border have increased. Meanwhile, instability also persists in Balochistan due to regular clashes between security forces and insurgents.
