Six top-listed terrorists and their followers are currently dominating Chattogram’s underworld. Acting under both direct and secret orders, these groups have been involved in murder and other serious crimes, spreading fear across Bayezid Bostami, Chandgaon, Panchlaish, Hathazari, Rauzan, and nearby areas. Continuous killings have heightened public anxiety.
According to police and local sources, the six key terrorists are Sajjad Ali (Boro Sajjad), Sajjad Hossain (Chhoto Sajjad), Raihan Alam, Mobarak Hossain Imon, Shahidul Islam Buissya, and Ismail Hossain Tempu. Over the past 13 months, at least 15 people have been killed in political conflicts in Chattogram. Last Wednesday evening, BNP candidate Ershad Ullah was shot in Chawlitatal, resulting in the death of terrorist Sarwar Hossain Babla.
The next day, Thursday afternoon, auto-rickshaw driver Idris Ali was shot in the same area. Later that night, five people were injured in an armed clash between two groups in Rauzan’s Bagoan area. These incidents mark a continuing wave of killings and terrorist activities.
Police sources said Boro Sajjad fled abroad in 2004 and still controls Chattogram’s criminal network from there. He faces at least 12 cases. Chhoto Sajjad was arrested in Dhaka on March 15 and remains in prison.
Raihan Alam, accused in at least 16 cases including the Baklia double murder, and Mobarak Hossain Imon, accused in nine murder cases, both operate under the command of the Sajjad brothers. Shahidul Islam Buissya has 20 cases filed against him, but police have yet to arrest him. Ismail Hossain Tempu is currently in jail.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz told the media that these criminals commit crimes and escape to remote areas with links to hill terrorists. They often hide deep in the hills and reappear to carry out attacks before fleeing on motorcycles.
Local sources said Boro Sajjad is currently in India and directs operations in Chattogram from there. The family of slain Babla has alleged that Sajjad orchestrated the killing.
Although Chhoto Sajjad is imprisoned, his associates remain active. Several murders have been linked to his group in recent years. After his arrest, Raihan Alam took control of the criminal network. Police say Raihan has multiple cases filed against him in Rauzan, Chandgaon, and Patenga for murders and other violent crimes.
Deputy Commissioner (North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Amirul Islam said, “Evidence links Raihan and Boro Sajjad to Babla’s murder. Despite being abroad, Boro Sajjad continues to direct crimes. Multiple teams are working to arrest Raihan.”
Meanwhile, Mobarak Hossain Imon, a close associate of Raihan, is known as a skilled shooter. According to police, the groups of Shahidul Islam Buissya and Ismail Hossain Tempu are also involved in extortion, robbery, and drug trafficking. Buissya’s group reportedly has around 40 members.
