In a significant anti-drug operation, the Department of Narcotics Control apprehended a young man, Mosharaf Hossain, with six thousand yaba tablets on board a passenger bus travelling from Dhaka to Thakurgaon. The operation was carried out on Tuesday night, 17 February, in Saidpur, Nilphamari, at the WAPDA Mor intersection.
Mosharaf Hossain, also known as Mofizul, 29, was intercepted by the Nilphamari District office of the Department of Narcotics Control. His father, Mostofa Kamal, is a resident of Baloncha (Part) village in Ranisankail Upazila, Thakurgaon District.
According to Sub-Inspector Sakib Sarkar, acting on confidential intelligence, a routine check was conducted on a Nabil Transport passenger bus heading towards Thakurgaon along the Saidpur-Dinajpur Highway. During the inspection, officers discovered 30 blue zippered packets in Mosharaf’s possession. Each packet contained 200 yaba tablets, bringing the total seized quantity to 6,000. Mosharaf was arrested immediately at the scene.
| Serial | Number of Packets | Tablets per Packet | Total Tablets |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30 | 200 | 6,000 |
Sub-Inspector Sarkar added that the accused had been involved in purchasing and distributing narcotics across several districts in Bangladesh. Legal action has been initiated under the Narcotics Control Act 2018, and a formal case has been filed with Saidpur Police Station.
The operation highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and dismantle trafficking networks. Mosharaf Hossain is suspected of being a key link in the regional distribution chain, and the seizure represents a significant disruption to the supply of yaba tablets in northern Bangladesh.
Authorities have emphasised that such proactive interventions are critical to preventing narcotics from reaching local communities and endangering public health. The Department of Narcotics Control has pledged continued vigilance and coordination with law enforcement agencies to tackle the persistent challenge of drug trafficking.
