A smuggler was arrested with 150,000 yaba tablets in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, during a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) operation. The arrested individual, Mohammad Sadek Hossain (20), is a resident of the Hakimpura Rohingya camp.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin (PSC), Commander of the Ukhiya Battalion, stated that the BGB patrol team, based on a tip-off, set up a position near the Balukhali border area on Thursday night. At around 10:30 PM, they spotted three people crossing into Bangladesh from Myanmar and challenged them.
As the suspects attempted to flee, they abandoned a netted bag. One of them was apprehended, and upon inspecting the abandoned bag, BGB found 150,000 yaba tablets wrapped in a blue airtight package.
During interrogation, Sadek revealed that he had been trafficking the drugs for Abdur Rahim (32) from the Rahmat Bill area in exchange for 9,000 taka.
Lieutenant Colonel Jasim Uddin mentioned that surveillance on drug trafficking networks has been increased, and the seized yaba tablets along with the arrested individual will be handed over to the Ukhiya police after legal procedures.
