The Bangladesh women’s cricket team has reaped the rewards of an imperious, unbeaten run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Following a dominant streak of seven consecutive victories, several key members of the squad have seen their standings climb significantly in the latest ICC T20I Player Rankings.
The most notable ascent belongs to Sobhana Mostary, whose batting prowess was instrumental in securing Bangladesh’s qualification. Finishing the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with an impressive haul of 262 runs across seven matches, Mostary has surged 16 places in the batting rankings. She now sits comfortably at world number 36, marking a career-defining moment for the top-order specialist.
Her teammates have also enjoyed upward mobility. The dependable captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, contributed 154 runs throughout the campaign, facilitating a three-place climb to 19th position. Meanwhile, the promising young opener Dilara Akter moved up five spots to occupy the 65th rank, further solidifying the team’s top-order credibility.
The success was not limited to the batters. Bangladesh’s premier left-arm spinner, Nahida Akter, proved clinical with the ball, claiming eight wickets during the qualifiers. This performance propelled her eight places up the bowling rankings to 28th.
The tournament also served as a springboard for international talent beyond the Tigresses. Ireland’s Arlene Kelly and Orla Prendergast saw jumps to 36th and 45th respectively. However, Scotland’s Katherine Fraser stole many of the headlines; the 20-year-old’s tally of 184 runs and 8 wickets saw her rise to 37th in the bowling charts and break into the top 25 of the all-rounder rankings.
| Player | Country | Category | New Rank | Movement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nigar Sultana | Bangladesh | Batting | 19 | Up 3 |
| Nahida Akter | Bangladesh | Bowling | 28 | Up 8 |
| Sobhana Mostary | Bangladesh | Batting | 36 | Up 16 |
| Katherine Fraser | Scotland | All-Rounder | 22 (Joint) | Up 3 |
| Orla Prendergast | Ireland | Batting | 45 | Up 10 |
These ranking improvements reflect a period of tactical evolution for Bangladesh. Previously reliant solely on their spin department, the team now displays a more balanced profile with aggressive batting and disciplined pace variations. As they prepare for the main event, the confidence gained from these personal milestones will be vital. The “Sobhana factor” in particular provides Bangladesh with a genuine power-hitting threat that could trouble the world’s elite bowling attacks.
