Rajshahi, 14 January: Abu Said Chand, the BNP-nominated parliamentary candidate for Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha), has voiced strong concerns over the exploitation of religion for political purposes. Speaking at a charitable event on Wednesday, he emphasised that Islam, the faith of over 200 million Muslims worldwide, should never be used as a political tool.
“If the BNP emerges victorious in the forthcoming 13th parliamentary elections and forms the government, the country will be governed on the principles of justice and fairness,” Chand stated. “Islam is a religion of peace and guidance, not an agenda for any political faction. Yet, we see a group manipulating religion to mislead and confuse people. It is imperative that everyone remains vigilant against such exploitation.”
Chand made these remarks while addressing a gathering in Fatepur village of Shalua Union, Charghat Upazila. The occasion was a winter clothing distribution programme organised by the Poverty Alleviation Welfare Association, aimed at providing essential support to the destitute, underprivileged, and elderly residents of the area.
He underscored the importance of separating religious values from political ambitions, highlighting that any misuse not only undermines faith but also erodes public trust in governance. Chand further encouraged local communities to participate actively in social welfare initiatives, stating that collective efforts could significantly improve living conditions for the underprivileged.
The event witnessed participation from local dignitaries, community leaders, and residents, who expressed appreciation for the initiative and the distribution of warm clothing amidst the harsh winter. Chand also interacted with the beneficiaries, discussing ways to ensure sustained support for vulnerable groups and emphasising community solidarity.
