Spain continue to showcase exceptional form in the European qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup. The former world champions have won all five of their matches so far, scoring 19 goals without conceding a single one—a remarkable statistic by any standard. Their latest victory came in Tbilisi, where they comfortably defeated Georgia 4–0. Yet, despite a flawless record, their qualification is not officially sealed.
In Group E, Spain sit firmly at the top with 15 points from 5 matches and an impressive +19 goal difference. Turkey remain second with 12 points and a +5 goal difference. Only the group winner qualifies directly for the World Cup.
Spain and Turkey will meet on Tuesday night in a decisive fixture. For Turkey, the equation borders on the impossible—they must beat Spain and overturn a 14-goal difference. Practically, Spain already have one foot in the World Cup, even if mathematics delays the confirmation.
Spain dominated from the opening whistle against Georgia. Their passing, movement and attacking flow overwhelmed the hosts. Mikel Oyarzabal netted twice, while Martín Zubimendi and Ferran Torres added one each to complete the rout.
Speaking to TVE after the match, Torres said:
“We performed brilliantly as a team. The qualification is not secured mathematically, but we want to finish the job in our next match. Nothing is guaranteed in football, yet we trust in our ability.”
Meanwhile in Group J, Belgium’s wait for qualification has also been extended. Rudy García’s men came from behind to draw 1–1 with Kazakhstan. After seven matches, Belgium have 15 points. North Macedonia trail closely with 13 points, while Wales also have 13 but sit third on goal difference.
| Team | Matches | Points | Goal Difference |
