Jannik Sinner overcame multiple interruptions, including a power failure and a persistent alarm, to defeat Gabriel Diallo 6-2, 7-6 (8/6) on a day of disruptions at the ATP and WTA Cincinnati Open on Monday.

The top-seeded defending champion got down to business against the Canadian world No. 35, who struggled with eight double faults in the first set and 49 unforced errors across the match. Despite trailing early in the second set, Sinner recovered, saving a set point in the tiebreak before sealing the win with an ace.

Match Interruptions Timeline

Second set (1-0 Sinner) Alarm sounded somewhere in the stadium Play suspended for a third time; resumed with faint alarm before it stopped

Sinner eventually claimed his 23rd consecutive hardcourt victory in under two hours.

“It was a very difficult day at the office,” said the Italian. “You have to find the balance against these big servers. I struggled with that at times today. But I need tough matches like this; I’m happy I got one before the Grand Slam. I know I can do things better.”

Other Men’s Singles Results

  • Taylor Fritz (4th seed, USA) defeated Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 after a one-hour delay following the first set, marking his 21st win in 25 matches.

“I can play better, but there’s been no time to train and prepare,” Fritz said. “I’m looking forward to fine-tuning before the US Open.”

  • Frances Tiafoe (USA) beat Ugo Humbert (France) 6-4, 6-4 in 82 minutes, setting up a clash with Holger Rune, who defeated Alex Michelsen 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.

WTA Highlights – Sabalenka Survives Raducanu Thriller

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka fought through a gruelling three-hour battle to edge Britain’s Emma Raducanu 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 7-6 (7/5), repeating her win from their Wimbledon third-round encounter in July.

Raducanu notably survived a marathon 13-deuce game in the final set, saving four break points before levelling at 4-4. However, Sabalenka’s aggressive late play, including a sixth ace for 5-4 in the breaker and a seventh on match point, secured victory.

“It was all about momentum,” Sabalenka said. “I took some risks at the end, went for crazy shots, went to the net. I’m happy to get through this difficult match… I just hope tomorrow is a day off.”

Sabalenka now targets her 10th career WTA 1000 title and second of the season after winning in Madrid.

Raducanu, meanwhile, drew encouragement from her performance:

“With work and practice, I think I can hold my level higher for longer. She’s world No. 1 for a reason. We had a three-hour match and I felt pretty good for the most part.”

The Briton was also cautioned by the chair umpire for unauthorised mid-match conversations with her new Spanish coach, Francisco Roig.

Additional Women’s Results

  • Madison Keys (USA), Australian Open champion, cruised past Japan’s Aoi Ito, dropping only four games.
  • Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (Spain) defeated American wild card Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-1 and will face Sabalenka in the next round.
