Stepmother Arrested Over Beating Death of Four-Year-Old

In Akkelpur, Joypurhat, police have arrested Jahnara Begum over allegations of beating her four-year-old stepson to death. The incident occurred on Sunday (30 November) at 11am in Gilakuri village, Tilokpur Union. The deceased, Naeem Hossain, was the son of Jalil Sheikh.

According to neighbours, Naeem’s father remarried after losing his first wife. Around four years ago, Naeem’s mother passed away, leaving him and his younger sister Jannat. Later, Jalil Sheikh married Jahnara Begum, who has an 8-month-old son.

Relatives claim that after the birth of her own child, Jahnara Begum began abusing Naeem and Jannat. On Sunday, while the father was absent, Naeem was brutally beaten. Neighbours found him dead on the floor with dark bruises and severe head injuries.

Local people detained Jahnara Begum and informed police. Superintendent Arif Hossain stated that preliminary investigation suggests the murder may be linked to property disputes.
