Stolen Firearms Recovered Following Fatal Attack on RAB

In a significant breakthrough following the brutal assault on elite security forces in Sitakunda, Chittagong, local police have successfully recovered four pistols previously looted by criminal elements. The incident, which resulted in the tragic death of a senior officer from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has left the volatile Jungle Salimpur area under heavy surveillance as authorities prepare for a large-scale retaliatory crackdown.

Recovery and the Aftermath

The firearms were snatched during a violent ambush on Monday afternoon targeting a RAB patrol. According to Inspector Sohail Rana, head of the Faujdarhat Police Outpost, the criminals fled with the service weapons after the fatal confrontation. Following an intensive intelligence-led operation, the four pistols were discovered on Wednesday night in a secluded location, reportedly tipped off by an informant.

While the weapons have been returned to state custody, the primary legal proceedings are still being finalised. Official sources from the Sitakunda Model Police Station confirmed that separate cases concerning the theft of state armaments and the murder of the officer are currently being drafted.

Suspects in Custody

One of the primary suspects, identified as Nurul Alam Mona, was apprehended by police on Monday evening shortly after the attack. Mona, who was found with injuries, is a notorious criminal with a history of involvement in multiple homicides and dacoity cases. He is currently receiving medical treatment under strict police guard and is expected to provide crucial information regarding the other members of the gang involved in the ambush.

Impending Joint Forces Operation

Despite the Director General of RAB announcing an immediate “combing operation” to flush out terrorists from Jungle Salimpur on Tuesday, the full-scale mission is yet to commence. However, the police have indicated that a combined force of the Army, RAB, and Police is in the final stages of coordination. The difficult terrain of Jungle Salimpur, often described as a “no-man’s land” for criminals, requires a sophisticated tactical approach to avoid further casualties.

Political Reactions and Condemnation

The incident has triggered a wave of political disclaimers. Aslam Chowdhury, the BNP nominee for the Chittagong-4 (Sitakunda) constituency, issued a formal statement categorically denying any involvement of party activists in the violence. He labelled social media reports linking the BNP to the attack as “malicious and fabricated,” demanding that the real culprits face exemplary punishment.

Similarly, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Anwar Siddique Chowdhury expressed his disdain for the violence, noting that such internal factionalism and criminal aggression have no place in a democratic society. He urged all political cadres to resist terrorist elements and cooperate with law enforcement to restore peace to the region.
