In a successful operation by the Chandpur River Police, a stolen speedboat has been recovered from Siddhirganj in Narayanganj. In connection with the incident, 26-year-old Md. Abdul Kader, a resident of Kalirchar in Munshiganj, has been arrested.
Sub-Inspector Sufal Chandra Singh of Chandpur River Police confirmed the recovery to local media on Saturday, 17 January. He stated that the operation was part of a coordinated and continuous investigation into a speedboat theft case registered at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station. Acting on intelligence and investigation, police traced and apprehended the main suspect in Siddhirganj.
Following interrogation, the suspect disclosed information that led police to conduct another search operation on the same day. This took place near a canal adjacent to the south side of Bricks Field, along the Buriganga River in Shyamalapur under Savar Police Station, Dhaka. During this operation, a 200cc blue and white speedboat, valued at approximately 16 lakh taka, was recovered.
Officials highlighted that the recovered vessel was suspected to be intended for illegal transport or other unauthorised river activities. The prompt action of the Chandpur River Police has been praised by local residents, who stressed the importance of vigilant policing to deter thefts along the region’s waterways.
The authorities have indicated that further investigation is ongoing to identify any other individuals involved in the crime and to ensure full accountability.
