Stone-Laden Boats, Sand Trucks Seized in Jaflong Crackdown

Authorities conducted a major crackdown on illegal mineral extraction in Jaflong, Sylhet, on Monday, seizing 50 boats laden with stones and five trucks transporting sand.

In a separate drive conducted on 24 July in Tahirpur, Sunamganj, an additional 5,250 cubic feet of illegally extracted stones were confiscated. The estimated market value of the seized materials stands at ৳2,62,510, according to an official statement.

The operation was carried out by the Executive Magistrate from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, under a mobile court drive. Officials confirmed that such drives will continue in order to:

  • Curb illegal extraction and unauthorised transportation of mineral resources
  • Protect the environment and natural reserves
  • Safeguard government revenue

The authorities emphasised their commitment to uphold environmental conservation laws and warned that legal action will be taken against violators in future operations.
