A brutal act of violence has claimed the life of Abdur Rahman, a 20-year-old student leader and prominent member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, following a targeted attack in Sirajganj. The cold-blooded killing occurred on Sunday afternoon, 28th December, at the bustling Chaurasta intersection on Bahirgola Road, leaving the local community in a state of profound shock and mourning. Rahman, an HSC first-year student at Islamia Government College and a resident of the Sya-dhangara Khanpara neighbourhood, was reportedly intercepted while seated inside a stationary CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
Disturbing CCTV footage from the scene captures the terrifying moments of the assault. The recording shows a group of assailants approaching the vehicle from both the front and the rear, wielding indigenous sharp weapons, including machetes and knives. The attackers launched a coordinated and frenzied assault, inflicting several deep wounds on the young student before vanishing into the surrounding streets. Despite the efforts of local residents who rushed him to Shaheed M. Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, medical staff were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victim’s uncle, Sohag, recounted the tragic sequence of events, explaining that his nephew had left home earlier that afternoon to attend a private tutoring session. “We received a call from the hospital in the evening saying he was unwell,” he shared. “When we arrived, we found that he had been hacked to death. We have no idea who is responsible or why they would target him so viciously.” Rahman’s role in the district committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has led many to speculate on the potential motives behind the assassination.
