Students Caught Using Books During Madrasa Exam Video

A video circulating on social media has caused widespread concern after appearing to show students consulting textbooks while taking a Fazil (Honours) examination at a madrasa in Comilla Sadar South Upazila. The video, which surfaced on Tuesday, prompted the local administration to form a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.

According to the footage, the examination was being held at Pipulia Islamia Kamil Madrasa, affiliated with the Islamic University, for first-year Kamil students. In the video, several students appear to be openly consulting their textbooks while writing their answers at the exam centre. Multiple clips from the same centre were shared widely on social media yesterday, leading to public criticism and calls for accountability.

However, the acting principal of Pipulia Madrasa, Abdul Quddus, has disputed the claims. Speaking to The Daily Star, he asserted that the videos were not from the current examination and suggested that they had been circulated with malicious intent. “We are confident that a proper investigation will reveal the truth,” he said, emphasising that the institution takes academic integrity seriously.

Local officials have confirmed that the matter is under scrutiny. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sujan Chandra Roy told reporters that the administration had received reports of the incident and had established a committee to verify the authenticity of the video and take appropriate action if necessary. He added that the committee would examine all evidence, interview witnesses, and ensure that any violations of examination regulations are addressed promptly.

The incident has sparked debates about the integrity of examinations in madrasas and the role of social media in spreading potentially misleading content. Experts have warned that viral videos, whether authentic or fabricated, can damage reputations and cause unnecessary panic, highlighting the importance of official verification before drawing conclusions.
