Sultan Salauddin Tuku, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) nominated candidate for Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, officially submitted his nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections on Monday, 29 December. The submission took place at 3:30 pm before Sharifa Haque, the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Tangail.
Following the formalities, Tuku addressed the media, outlining his vision for the constituency. “I pledge to build a Tangail free from terrorism, drugs, extortion, and juvenile gangs. We aim to establish a safe, modern, and progressive city. I shall dedicate myself with utmost sincerity and determination to realise these promises,” he said.
He further emphasised that, “With the support, love, and prayers of the people, Tangail Sadar will be transformed into a model district in terms of development and governance. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, BNP stands united. In the coming days, guided by Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, we will work together, setting aside all differences, in support of the party’s electoral symbol, the Sheaf of Paddy. Individual interests are secondary to the party, and the party is secondary to the nation. We shall move forward embracing the ideals of the late President Ziaur Rahman. I call upon everyone to unite and work collectively for the Sheaf of Paddy.”

This marks Tuku’s first contest for a parliamentary seat from Tangail-5. He brings with him extensive leadership experience, having served as the president of both the Chhatra Dal (Student Wing) and the Jubo Dal (Youth Wing) of BNP.
