Super Typhoon ‘Fung Wong’ Hits Philippines, 2 Dead

Super Typhoon ‘Fung Wong’ has struck the northern Philippines, causing the deaths of two people. Power supply has been cut off in many areas. In response, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a state of national emergency.

On Sunday (9 November) night local time, the super typhoon hit northern Philippines with winds of 185 km/h. According to the Philippine weather agency PAGASA, at 9:10 PM local time, ‘Fung Wong’ made landfall in Aurora province on Luzon Island. Coastal areas were devastated by the storm, and power outages occurred in central and eastern regions due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Aurora, Isabela, and nearby areas were flooded by the storm. At least one million people were taken to shelters before the storm. Hundreds of flights were canceled, and several airports were closed. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a national state of emergency.

‘Fung Wong’ is locally known as ‘Uwan’. The weather office forecasts that the storm will move northwest from Monday, reaching the Taiwan Strait by Tuesday, and is likely to weaken upon reaching western Taiwan on Thursday.

Last week, Typhoon ‘Kalmaegi’ hit the country, causing over 200 deaths and leaving millions homeless.
