Naomi Osaka’s Gritty Victory
Former world number one Naomi Osaka fought back from the brink, saving two match points to claim a hard-fought win over Liudmila Samsonova:
4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-3.
This match marked her first significant triumph since partnering with new coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, after splitting with Patrick Mouratoglou earlier in the week.
“She came out really hard. I was overwhelmed and didn’t know whether to go for winners or just keep the ball in play,” Osaka said.
“Eventually I focused on keeping the ball in court and it helped me regain control.”
