Swiss Re Appoints Tamas Bown to Lead Asia-Pacific

Swiss Re has named Tamas Bown as the new head of its Asia-Pacific (excluding China) Life & Health Reinsurance (L&H Re) Business Unit, marking his return to the region after several years leading European and Middle Eastern operations. The appointment is set to take effect on 1 April, subject to regulatory approval, and will see Bown relocate to Singapore to manage regional operations.

Career and Regional Experience

Bown brings over 20 years of experience with Swiss Re, having previously held senior leadership positions in Asia. His earlier roles include Head of L&H Client Markets in Japan and Chairperson of the Asia L&H Origination Committee, giving him extensive insight into the Asia-Pacific insurance landscape.

Most recently, he led Swiss Re’s UK and Ireland Market Unit starting in 2023, a portfolio that expanded in 2024 to cover the Middle East and Africa. His familiarity with multiple regional markets is viewed as a key asset for the Asia-Pacific assignment, particularly as Swiss Re aims to strengthen its Life & Health Re presence across the region.

Paul Murray, CEO of L&H Re, commented:

“Tamas’s extensive history with Swiss Re and deep understanding of Asian insurance markets make him an ideal internal candidate to lead our Asia-Pacific operations. His appointment supports our strategy to deliver sustainable growth and enhanced client engagement in this dynamic region.”

Strategic Context

Swiss Re is currently refining its global L&H Re strategy, with a clear focus on expanding market reach and improving profitability in high-growth regions. For the 2026 fiscal year, the group has set a specific net income target of $1.5 billion for its Life & Health Re sector. Bown’s return to Asia-Pacific is seen as a strategic move to align regional operations with these broader corporate objectives.
