Sylhet Police Set Three Rules for Motorbike Fuel

Sylhet Metropolitan Police have introduced three strict conditions for motorcyclists seeking fuel from filling stations across the city. The directive, issued on Wednesday evening and signed by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury, emphasises strict adherence to the new regulations, calling on all filling station authorities to take the necessary measures.

Key Requirements

According to the public notice, all motorcyclists must comply with the following conditions before being allowed to collect fuel:

Requirement Description
1 The rider must possess a valid driving licence.
2 The motorcycle must be officially registered.
3 Both the rider and any pillion passenger must wear a certified safety helmet.

Filling stations have been instructed not to provide fuel to any motorcyclist failing to meet these conditions. Furthermore, the police have warned that anyone disregarding the rules or attempting to bypass them will face appropriate legal action.

Police Oversight

Speaking to the media, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md. Monjurul Alam explained that police personnel would be deployed around filling stations to ensure compliance. “Fuel will not be supplied to motorcycles if the requirements are not met,” he stated. “Any illegal activity or violation of the directives will be met with lawful action.”

Rising Demand and Public Concern

The announcement comes amid rumours of a fuel shortage circulating across various media platforms. Since the Eid holiday closures, motorcyclists in Sylhet have been forming long queues at filling stations, often attempting to collect fuel in quantities exceeding their immediate needs. This surge in demand has placed additional strain on the stations, according to local authorities.

Filling Station Average Daily Motorbike Visits Average Queue Length
Shahid Mor 120 50 metres
Vatican Road 90 40 metres
Joar Bazar 105 45 metres

Filling station operators have welcomed the police initiative, noting that the measures will help regulate fuel distribution and ensure fair access for all riders. Compliance with these rules is expected to reduce congestion, prevent hoarding, and enhance road safety by ensuring all riders wear helmets.

Safety and Regulation

The new regulations underscore the city police’s commitment to both traffic safety and equitable fuel distribution. By enforcing proper licensing, vehicle registration, and helmet usage, authorities aim to curb reckless behaviour on the roads while maintaining orderly access to limited fuel supplies.

As public awareness of the rules increases, police and filling station authorities are encouraging motorcyclists to prepare the necessary documentation and observe safety protocols before visiting stations to avoid delays or legal complications.
