Tarique Rahman Aims to Rebuild Bangladesh Through Unity, Says Fakhrul

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is actively striving to reshape Bangladesh through unity and collective engagement, according to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Speaking at the inauguration of a graffiti exhibition organised by Jubo Dal in front of the National Museum in Dhaka on Monday, Fakhrul stated:

“Tarique Rahman is trying to determine how Bangladesh can be rebuilt. He envisions a new Bangladesh formed by bringing everyone together.”

Fakhrul emphasised the widespread participation in the July 2024 Uprising, noting:

Group Involved Number of Martyrs
Jubo Dal 79
Chhatra Dal 142

He said the uprising saw the involvement of all segments of society—children, youth, and the elderly—not merely political organisations. Their collective efforts contributed to resisting what he termed the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina.

Fakhrul also stressed the importance of acknowledging these sacrifices:

“White must be called white, and black must be called black.”

He reiterated the BNP’s commitment to political reform, although he expressed disappointment at the lack of tangible progress so far.

The remarks reflect the BNP’s continued push for national unity in opposition to the current government, alongside a call to remember those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle.
