Tarique Rahman Occupies Gulshan Office for the First Time

Dhaka, 28 December 2025 – Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has, for the very first time, taken office in the party’s political headquarters at Gulshan. The building, located at One Eleven, has functioned as the BNP Chairperson’s political office since 2008, following the bail and release of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who had been detained by the then military-backed government.

According to party sources, the office was initially leased when Tarique Rahman was in London for advanced medical treatment. After 17 years abroad, he returned to Bangladesh on Thursday, 25 December 2025, and a dedicated office had been prepared for him within the Gulshan headquarters ahead of his arrival.

On Sunday, 28 December, Rahman assumed his office in the presence of members of the BNP National Standing Committee, marking a symbolic moment in his leadership role. Senior party figures welcomed him with floral tributes, including Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Begum Selima Rahman, and Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The announcement of his office presence drew a considerable gathering of party activists and media personnel at the headquarters. Also present were Dr. Moudud Alamgir Pavel, head of the BNP media cell, Adviser Mahdi Amin, staff from the Chairperson’s office, and leaders from Bogura district. Tarique Rahman’s personal security officer, Brigadier (Retd.) Shamsul Islam, Ziaur Rahman Foundation Europe coordinator Kamal Uddin, and his private secretary, Abdur Rahman Sani, were also on site.

Rahman’s convoy arrived at the office from his Gulshan Avenue residence at 1:40 pm. After exchanging greetings with party leaders, he proceeded to his chamber on the second floor. At the central office in New Paltan, a separate chamber has also been prepared for him adjacent to the Chairperson’s office.

It is noteworthy that Tarique Rahman had left Bangladesh on 11 September 2008 with his family—wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Jaime Rahman—for medical treatment in London. Due to government restrictions, he had been unable to return until now. His arrival marks a significant chapter in BNP’s political activities as the party seeks to consolidate its leadership and organisational structure.
