Tasnim Jara to be a Candidate for Which Dhaka Seat

Dr. Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), will contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary elections from Dhaka-9. Her name appears in the party’s preliminary draft candidate list, multiple party sources confirmed.

According to party sources, the final candidate list has not yet been officially announced. However, central leadership has instructed potential candidates to start electoral preparation and public outreach. Once the final list is ready, the party will officially announce the candidates through a press conference.

At a press conference held on Sunday at the party’s headquarters in the capital, NCP convener Nahid Islam said, “We will field candidates in 300 constituencies. The draft list of potential candidates has already been prepared.” He also noted that while complications regarding the July charter have been resolved, the election schedule remains uncertain.

According to the draft list, convener Nahid Islam will contest from Dhaka-11, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari from Dhaka-18, Joint Convenor Ariful Islam Adib from Dhaka-14, Akram Hossain from Dhaka-13, Khan Muhammad Mursalin from Dhaka-6, Imran Hossain from Dhaka-2, and Senior Joint Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara from Dhaka-9.

An NCP leader preparing for elections from Feni said the final candidate list is not yet public due to strategic reasons. Interviews of potential candidates have started. BNP has already announced its candidate list, and nomination-deprived BNP leaders may join NCP to seek nominations. Over two dozen leaders have already contacted NCP high command regarding nominations.

Another NCP leader mentioned that despite parties releasing candidate lists, there remains uncertainty whether elections will be held in February. Conflicts over the July charter and possible interference from a neighboring country have raised concerns about election delays.

At a press conference at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor on Monday evening, NCP leaders accused the government of shifting responsibility to political parties instead of taking initiative on the July charter and public voting. Secretary Akhtar Hossain said the government is playing games with the charter, and a faction within the government is attempting to sabotage the elections.

Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari criticized BNP’s candidate list as disappointing, dominated by godfathers, excluding youth. He also expressed satisfaction over Tarique Rahman’s return to the country and congratulated BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for contesting three seats.

Meanwhile, NCP’s youth wing, the Jatiya Jubo Shakti Central Convenor Committee, condemned a recent false case filed against Patwari by a BNP leader, stating that it is an attempt to intimidate young politicians.
