Teacher Arrested for Alleged Child Abuse in Boalkhali

Authorities in Boalkhali, Chattogram, have arrested a private tutor, Imtiaz Uddin, 25, following allegations of sexual abuse against children under the guise of home tutoring. The shocking revelation has sent ripples of grief and concern through the local community and among parents.

According to police reports, a team from Boalkhali Police Station apprehended Imtiaz at his residence late on Wednesday night, 4 March. He resides in Purbogomdondi Munshipara, Ward No. 3 of Boalkhali Municipality, and is the son of Shawkat Habib.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Imtiaz had been offering private tuition at his home for the past one and a half to two years. During these sessions, he allegedly subjected children to sexual abuse, using threats and intimidation to prevent them from disclosing the incidents. Authorities have stated that the perpetrator specifically manipulated the children in ways that discouraged them from informing their families or friends.

Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the arrest, saying, “Following the initial verification of the allegations, the accused was taken into custody. During preliminary questioning, he admitted to committing the offences. The affected children have been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for medical examinations and mental health assessment. Following the filing of an official case, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.”

Police sources indicate that four children were impacted by the alleged abuse, comprising three girls and one boy. Their ages and genders are detailed in the table below:

Serial Age (Years) Gender
1 9 Female
2 8 Female
3 7 Female
4 6 Male

OC Mahfuzur Rahman added, “We are continuing the investigation to determine whether there are any further connections or accomplices involved. It is imperative that parents remain vigilant, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of all children in our jurisdiction.”

The incident has left the local community shocked and anxious. Residents described the abuse as a severe blow to the area, given that it took place under the guise of private tuition. Experts emphasise the critical importance of safeguarding both the physical and psychological well-being of children, while urging parents to maintain vigilant oversight.

Educational institutions across Boalkhali and Chattogram have reportedly heightened their security protocols in response. Specialists advise teachers and guardians alike to uphold safe and ethical conduct at all times, ensuring that children are protected from any form of exploitation or harm.
