“Tears Came to My Eyes Seeing the Stadium’s Condition”: BCB President

Following his appointment as President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Aminul Islam Bulbul has been actively travelling across the country with the vision of decentralising cricket. On Sunday afternoon (24 August), he attended an event titled “Cricket Development and Ideas” organised by the Narayanganj District Sports Association at the Narayanganj District Sports Complex, where he was the chief guest.

Before attending the event, Bulbul visited the Fatullah Stadium. Sharing his emotions, he said: “Narayanganj has always been an idol for us. The history of cricket here is rich. When I was learning cricket myself, I developed a close bond with Narayanganj. Various leagues were held here, and many local players went on to play in Dhaka. Seeing the enthusiasm for cricket among the people of Narayanganj even today has delighted me. But when I went to Fatullah Stadium, the condition of the ground brought tears to my eyes. At one time, countless national and international matches were held here. Now, the ground is in a very tragic state.”

Bulbul stressed that significant development work is required at the Fatullah ground. He outlined the following plans:

Development Area Current Situation Planned Initiative
Practice Wickets Only 3 wickets available Plan to increase to at least 20 wickets
Playing Season Cricket was once seasonal Now played throughout all 12 months
Coaching Facilities Limited opportunities Expand access to coaches locally
Player Opportunities Players often travel to Dhaka Plan to ensure facilities within Narayanganj
Infrastructure Lack of indoor facility Aim to build an indoor stadium

He explained further: “Players need more opportunities and facilities. At present, I found only three wickets here, but our plan is to create at least twenty. In our time, cricket was played only in certain months of the year. Now it continues all year round. We will work to increase coaching opportunities alongside player facilities. Within the next year to a year and a half, I hope to bring such improvements in Narayanganj that players will no longer need to go to Dhaka. They will have coaches and facilities right here. Everything is already in our pipeline. Please pray that I can turn my words into action. I say this with confidence because while at the ICC, I successfully carried out similar projects.”

Addressing the young cricketers in attendance, the BCB President remarked: “Cricket is only a small part of life. Sitting before me are the cricketers of the future. I know that many promising players are here who will one day become the next Tamim or Shakib. My wish is to establish an indoor stadium in Narayanganj so that players can remain active throughout the year.”

Bulbul’s visit highlighted both his deep emotional connection with Narayanganj cricket and his ambitious plans to revive and strengthen facilities, aiming to create a sustainable pathway for the district’s aspiring cricketers.
