Teenager Dies by Suicide in Noakhali Following Argument with Mother

A ninth-grade student, Fatema Akter Mithila (15), died by suicide in Noakhali’s Chatkhil Upazila following an argument with her mother. Police recovered her hanging body on Thursday morning (November 13).

The deceased, Fatema Akter Mithila, was the only daughter of Mohinuddin and Lutun Nahar of Munshibari, Prosadpur village, in Sahapur Union of the Upazila. She was a ninth-grade student at the local Sompara Girls’ High School.

According to local sources, Mithila had an argument with her mother on Wednesday night regarding her romantic relationship. She reportedly went to sleep in her room, hurt and upset. The next morning, after a prolonged lack of response, family members broke down the door and found that Mithila had committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf tied to the ceiling fan.

Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue at Noakhali General Hospital for an autopsy.

The family stated that she was busy preparing for her exams. They mentioned that a minor disagreement over watching TV the previous night was followed by this tragic end.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatkhil Police Station, Mohammad Firoz Ahmed, told Dhaka Post, “Initially, it is suspected to be a case of suicide. The cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.”
