Teenager Fatally Stabbed over Torchlight Dispute

In a tragic incident in Brahmanbaria, a 17-year-old boy, Mosabbir Hossain, was brutally stabbed to death following an argument over a torchlight. The incident occurred on Saturday night, during Eid celebrations, in the Boronagar village of Nasirnagar Upazila.

Mosabbir Hossain, a resident of Boroshir village under Ward No. 6 of Nasirnagar, was the son of Abu Mia. He helped his father with boat-driving work along the nearby rivers, contributing to the family’s livelihood.

According to local sources and police reports, the conflict arose between two influential groups of youths from neighbouring areas. The first group, led by the Sardar family, holds sway in Gujia Khail village, Ward No. 7, Chatlapar Union, while the second, led by Aftab Mia’s faction, is prominent in Boronagar village, Ward No. 6.

The confrontation reportedly began while the teenagers were listening to music. Mosabbir allegedly shone a torchlight that accidentally hit the eyes of other youths, triggering an argument that quickly escalated into a violent altercation. Eyewitnesses stated that Aftab Mia’s followers attacked Mosabbir with knives near the banks of the Meghna River, leaving him severely wounded.

He was rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital at around 10:30 pm, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The body has since been placed in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Rafiqul Islam, chairman of Chatlapar Union Parishad, told Prothom Alo that the quarrel had erupted over the torchlight shining in others’ eyes during their music session. “What began as a minor disagreement quickly escalated. Unfortunately, it ended in a knife attack that claimed Mosabbir’s life,” he said.

Inspector Krishna Lal Ghosh, the investigation officer of Nasirnagar Police Station, confirmed the authenticity of the report and stated that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are attempting to identify all perpetrators involved and ensure justice is served.
