Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled ten leaders from its Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency for violating party discipline and engaging in anti-organisational activities.
The announcement was made on Wednesday night (28 January) through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. According to the release, all the expelled leaders were found to have actively campaigned for independent rebel candidates against the party’s officially nominated candidate in Shibchar.
| No. | Name | Position/Role |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sajahan Molla Saju | Joint Convenor, Shibchar Upazila BNP |
| 2 | Mahbub Madbar | Member, Shibchar Upazila BNP |
| 3 | Shamim Chowdhury | Member, Shibchar Upazila BNP |
| 4 | Yazzem Hossain Roman | Member, Shibchar Upazila BNP |
| 5 | Pannu Gomosta | Joint Convenor, Shibchar Municipality BNP |
| 6 | Saiduzzaman Nasim | Member, Shibchar Municipality BNP |
| 7 | Alamgir Hossain | Member, Shibchar Municipality BNP |
| 8 | Mostofa Molla | Member, Shibchar Municipality BNP |
| 9 | Quddus Molla | Member, Shibchar Municipality BNP |
| 10 | Tuman Chowdhury | Joint General Secretary, District Volunteer League |
All ten have been permanently relieved of their positions at every level of the party, including their basic membership.
The press release cited that these leaders had openly supported rebel candidates in direct opposition to the BNP’s nominated candidate, Nadira Akter, in the Madaripur-1 constituency. The party leadership emphasised that such insubordination and support for rival candidates cannot be tolerated, particularly during a critical election period.
Advocate Jafar Ali Mia, Convener of Madaripur District BNP, told local media that similar disciplinary actions are underway in Madaripur-2 (Sadar–Rajoir), where independent candidates are also challenging the BNP nominee. He added that Madaripur-3 (Kalkini–Dasar) currently has no rebel candidates, so no expulsions are expected there at present.
The move reflects BNP’s efforts to enforce strict internal discipline and maintain cohesion ahead of the national polls, signalling a zero-tolerance stance against members who undermine the party’s electoral strategy. Analysts note that such expulsions are likely to deter other potential dissenters from campaigning against party-backed candidates in the coming elections.
