Popular singer Asif Akbar is known for frequently speaking out against various irregularities and injustices in the country. Recently, in light of the attack on the president of the Gono Adhikar Parishad, Nurul Haq Nur, he commented on the political climate in a post on his Facebook account.
On the night of Friday, 29 August, Nurul Haq Nur was severely injured during a clash in front of the Jatiya Party’s office in Kakrail, Dhaka. He was rescued in a bloodied state and admitted to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in the ICU. This incident has intensified the political environment in the country, with widespread protests on social media.
On Saturday, 30 August, Asif Akbar posted a status on his Facebook in which he spoke about the shamelessness of political leaders. He wrote:
“I used to think that ministers of political parties never resign and take responsibility; they are shameless. Now I see that that chair is for the shameless.”
Although Asif did not mention any names in his post, his followers have commented, suggesting that he was referring to the Interim Government’s Law Adviser.
