The birthday of fiction writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay is on November 2

A shining star in Bengali literature and a unique creator of science fiction — Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay.
Through his pen, the world of the future, human emotions, and the web of colorful imagination come alive.
By blending love, mystery, adventure, and social realism, he has won the hearts of readers across both Bengals. 

He was born on November 2, 1935, in the greater Mymensingh region of present-day Bangladesh.
His childhood was spent amidst the beauty of rural nature. Later, he completed his secondary education at Victoria College, Cooch Behar, and obtained his master’s degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta.
He began his professional life as a teacher, but his true identity emerged through his writing — as a storyteller, novelist, and imaginative creator.

His literary journey began in 1959 with the story “Jal Taranga,” published in the magazine Desh.
Since then, he has gifted readers with countless timeless creations, including Monojder Adbhut Bari, Ghorar Dim, Manobjomin, Ferari, Ganga, Tumi Chile Eka, and Aranyer Din Ratri, among many others.
Many of his works have been adapted into films and dramas, continuing to enchant generations of readers and audiences alike.

For his remarkable contribution to Bengali literature, he has received numerous honors, including the Vidyasagar Award, Ananda Puraskar, and Sahitya Akademi Award.
The Government of West Bengal also honored him with the prestigious title of Banga Bibhushan for enriching the Bengali language and literature.
