Kumilla’s newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the BNP, Professor Selim Bhuiyan, has issued a stern warning to Titash Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumaya Momin, urging her to transfer elsewhere before any public unrest occurs.
The warning came during a pre-evening gathering on Saturday in the Kalakandi area of Titash, where Bhuiyan met with party leaders and local activists to exchange greetings. Video footage of his remarks has since circulated widely on social media, drawing significant attention.
Bhuiyan alleged that the UNO had exhibited “antagonistic behaviour” towards him and local BNP leaders, citing instances of perceived misconduct and poor treatment of party activists. “Since my nomination for the election, I have not spoken to Titash UNO Sumaya Momin for a single day,” Bhuiyan stated in the video. “I am fully aware of the necessary measures regarding officials who display such behaviour towards the public. I sincerely hope she is transferred promptly, as she does not demonstrate proper conduct. I have cautioned her: should any mob formation occur, she will be held responsible.”
Bhuiyan, representing the BNP from the Cumilla-2 constituency, which encompasses Homna and Titash, appeared resolute in his remarks. The statement underscores the tensions that can arise between elected representatives and bureaucratic officials in the immediate post-election period.
The greeting event was attended by prominent local BNP figures, including Titash Upazila BNP President Osman Gani Bhuiyan, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Homna Upazila BNP President Md. Mohiuddin, and former Chairman of Titash Upazila Parishad Salah Uddin Sarkar, among others.
The incident has sparked debate among political analysts regarding the role of administrative officers in local governance and their interactions with elected representatives. Critics note that such public warnings could heighten tensions in an already sensitive political environment.
