Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has decided to reside at his personal residence on 196 Gulshan Avenue rather than the state guesthouse at Jamuna.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, who told reporters that Mr Rahman feels more comfortable in his own residence. “The Prime Minister will remain at his smaller Gulshan home, which has been arranged and prepared to suit his requirements following his return to the country,” Rumon said.
According to the press secretary, this decision is purely personal. The choice to stay at his own residence is motivated by the comfort and familiarity it provides, rather than any formal or political considerations. The Jamuna state guesthouse will therefore not host the Prime Minister during his current stay in Dhaka.
| Time | Venue | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| 08:00 AM | National Eidgah Ground | Participation in the principal Eid congregation alongside citizens from all walks of life |
| 10:00 AM | State Guesthouse, Jamuna | Exchange of Eid greetings with prominent national figures |
On the day of the holy Eid, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at the National Eidgah ground at 8:00 AM. There, he will join citizens of all communities in performing the principal Eid congregation prayers. Following the prayers, he will proceed to the Jamuna state guesthouse at 10:00 AM to greet distinguished personalities from across the country.
Rumon further elaborated that the Prime Minister’s residence in Gulshan has been thoughtfully prepared to accommodate his return. “The house has been organised to provide a comfortable and private environment suitable for his stay,” he said.
Government sources emphasised that this is not a political statement but rather a reflection of personal preference. By choosing to remain at his own home, the Prime Minister ensures both privacy and convenience while maintaining the traditional public engagements associated with Eid.
This approach allows Mr Rahman to balance private comfort with public duties, engaging with citizens at the Eidgah and later exchanging greetings with national dignitaries at the state guesthouse. Observers note that the schedule preserves the ceremonial aspects of Eid while accommodating the Prime Minister’s personal choice of residence.
