The Home Minister announced when the first session of the 13th National Parliament will take place.

The Thirteenth National Parliament of Bangladesh is expected to convene its first session on 12 March, or a few days prior, according to statements made by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. He conveyed this information to media representatives on Saturday evening, confirming the schedule for the new parliamentary session.

Speaking to journalists, the Home Minister said, “The first session of the National Parliament will commence on 12 March next month, or possibly a couple of days earlier. During this session, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected.”

He further added, “The session will also include the presentation of ordinances enacted by the interim government, along with the submission of condolence motions.” This indicates that the opening session will not only focus on leadership elections but also review key legislative actions taken during the caretaker period.

Significant political appointments within the Thirteenth Parliament have already been confirmed. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairman Tarique Rahman has been elected as the Leader of the House, while Shafiqul Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami has assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition. These appointments mark the official commencement of parliamentary leadership for the new legislature.

The selection of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker is expected to reflect the parliamentary majority dynamics, which will influence policy-making in the coming months.
