The President will administer the Cabinet oath at 4 p.m

President Md. Shahabuddin is scheduled to administer the oath of office to the members of the new cabinet this Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony will take place at 4:00 PM in the South Plaza of the National Parliament House.

According to Kaniz Mawla, Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, the oath-taking ceremony for the new cabinet members will commence at 4 PM. Earlier in the day, newly elected members of parliament will take their parliamentary oaths.

Preparations for the event began immediately after the 13th National Parliament election, with the Cabinet Division and the Parliament Secretariat starting organisational work from Saturday, two days following the polls.

In line with constitutional procedures, after the newly elected MPs take their oaths, the parliamentary board of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)—which has secured a parliamentary majority—will hold a meeting to elect its parliamentary leader.

Subsequently, the party leader will meet the President to formally inform him of the party’s absolute majority in the Parliament and to submit a request for appointment as Prime Minister. Following this, the President will appoint the Prime Minister, who will then select members of the cabinet.

As the Head of State, Md. Shahabuddin will first administer the oath to the Prime Minister, followed by the ministers, state ministers, and deputy ministers.

Constitutionally, elected MPs must take their oaths within three days of the publication of the gazette. On Friday night, the Election Commission published the gazettes for 297 of the 299 parliamentary constituencies.

In this election, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the BNP won 209 seats, securing a clear majority. Jamaat-e-Islami, with 68 seats, will assume the role of the main opposition party, while the remaining seats were won by other parties and independent candidates.

Party / Group Seats Won Role in Parliament
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) 209 Ruling Party (Majority)
Jamaat-e-Islami 68 Main Opposition Party
Other Parties & Independents 22 Minor Parties / Independents

This marks the beginning of a new legislative and executive phase, with the BNP set to lead the government and form a cabinet that will guide the country’s policy direction over the next term.
