The Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Reveals Reason for Leaving the Country

Foyez Ahmad Tayyab, the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, has quietly left the country. In a detailed social media statement, he cited financial losses, family obligations, and the formal conclusion of his official duties as reasons for his overseas travel.

Amid widespread speculation and criticism on social media regarding his abrupt departure, Mr Tayyab sought to clarify his position through a lengthy post on his verified Facebook account at 1:13 a.m. on Saturday, 14 February.

He wrote: “I formally bid farewell to the ICT Division, PTD, and BTRC on 8, 9, and 10 February. After that, I diligently fulfilled my responsibilities related to the national elections. I contributed to the technology-driven electoral process and left with proper farewells from my colleagues. My official last working day was 10 February, and we held a farewell dinner with all staff. My colleagues even sang to see me off.”

Addressing allegations and criticisms levelled against him, he added: “Before making any derogatory remarks about a person of integrity, it would be prudent to verify the facts. When a colleague asked about my future plans, I simply said I would need to find a new job. Serving the country has caused significant personal financial losses—my savings have been entirely exhausted.”

Mr Tayyab explained the urgency of his departure, citing family commitments: “My son had a parents’ meeting at school, and my wife had a medical emergency. I applied for leave and am going abroad to attend to these responsibilities. I had already booked my return ticket. I have long been unable to spend sufficient time with my family, and today is also Valentine’s Day.”

He further asserted that during his tenure, he worked tirelessly to introduce new management practices, technological reforms, and transparency within a ministry he described as historically corrupt. He highlighted his efforts in revising outdated laws and regulations.

Mr Tayyab emphasised that he is not involved in any form of corruption and accused certain mobile operators and telecom-affiliated groups of spreading rumours about him. Concluding his statement, he requested the public’s prayers: “Please stay well and remember me in your prayers.”

He departed the country on Saturday morning, 14 February, at 10:10 a.m., flying via Emirates Airlines to Dubai before proceeding to Germany.
